Rosita Levi Pisetzky , born in Milan in 1898 and deceased in 1985, was defined by Guido Lopez as “the lady of Italian costume” and was considered by Guido Vergani in the Fashion Dictionary (Badini and Castoldi, Milan 1999) to be the first scholar “to treat the topic seriously, studying clothing as a means of communication and social documentation”. She published the History of Italian Costume between 1964 and 1968 in five volumes and wrote a volume of poems, “Fuori dal tempo” (Nuove Edizioni, 1977). She was married to the lawyer and notary public Alessandro Levi.
She is buried in a monument in black Biella granite along with her father Gioachino, who died in 1906, owner of a household goods shop in via Durini 18, her mother Ilda Pirani who died in 1927 and her brother Ruggero (1886-1969), an engineer. In the center there is a votive lamp with a star of David and a poem by Rosita: “I don’t know any reality but dream”.
