Location: field 1, no. 2
Execution date: 1875
Rosa Susani, born in Mantua in 1804, married Felice Carpi (1796-1852). He moved to Milan in 1830 where he became one of the most important bankers in the city. After Carpi’s death in 1852 Rosa Susani, heir to large land holdings in the Mantua area, devoted herself to cultural activities and contemporary art collecting. She was the animator of one of the liveliest salons of the time and made donations to the Israelite Consortium of Milan, to the Pious care facility for the Israelites of Mantua, to the Carpi Agricultural School of Mantua, to the generous activity of Laura Solera Mantegazza and to people in need. Before dying in 1875, he appointed “Luoghi pii elemosinieri” administered by the Congregation of Charity of Milan as universal heir, with the “intention of benefiting as best I can for my country for which I have so much affection”, providing “education aids for children and young girls, of honest families of civil condition without distinction of the religion or cult they profess, whether they are Israelites, Catholics or Protestants. “
The monument was erected by the Congregation of Charity with a plaque commemorating her donation and her portrait in profile. The white marble block is embellished with floral designs and decorative ribbons.
