Davide Foà, born in Milan in 1835, died at 45 years of age. He was the son of Giuseppe Foà, a drapery merchant originally from Casale Monferrato who came to Milan in 1826. His brother Beniamino Foà, also a shopkeeper in partnership with his brother, died in 1888. The marble workers, Bonfanti brothers, built two similar monuments. In the first a putto engraves the name of David, in the second the daughter brings flowers to Benjamin by climbing a staircase that represents the passage to the afterlife. Davide was interested in music and science and his medallion under a small temple has a violin and a sheet of music beside it. A bust of Benjamin was originally above the monument.
