Ernestina Terni in Foligno died at the age of 25 in 1901 while giving birth to her son Roberto. Her husband Giulio Foligno (1874-1958), a great friend of Arturo Toscanini’s, came from a family of steel traders from Ancona and was president of Ilva and of the Italian Steel Union and vice president of Finsider.
The aedicule is at the center of the cemetery and was built in the Art Nouveau style by Ing. Luigi Mazzocchi (1844-1925), designer of the Cimitero Maggiore, and his son arch. Cesare Mazzocchi. The decoration on the back of the aedicule is particularly elegant, representing a menorah above a typically Art Nouveau floral decoration. The iron gate represents a peacock, widely used in Art Nouveau decorations and a symbol of eternal life. Inside there is the inscription: “Since life did not bless us and you, beloved, to our ineffable torment, abandoned us here, death will at least indissolubly reunite Giulio and Roberto with you as was your supreme desire”.
