Marco Besso was born in Arta, Greece, in 1874 and arrived in Milan through Trieste at the beginning of the 1900s. He died in Milan in 1929.
The architect Manfredo d’Urbino designed the monument in 1931, featuring an enclosure shape with a background wall made of Candoglia marble and granite, adorned with a blue and gold mosaic and a large menorah above a Star of David.
