The sculptor Giuseppe Daniele Benzoni built a monument in the shape of a sarcophagus in Carrara marble, covered with a cloth and flowers in 1875 on the death of the little Prospero Rino Ottolenghi (1864-1874 ), son of the famous lawyer and senator of the Kingdom Salvatore Ottolenghi and of the benefactress Fanny Finzi. After the death of Prospero Finzi, Fanny’s father, a sarcophagus was added in 1876 in the center of the monument for him and one on the opposite side for his wife Annetta Finzi, who died in 1871 and was transferred from the cemetery of Porta Magenta. The tombs were surrounded by a cast iron balustrade designed by architect Carlo Maciachini. Fanny was also buried in the monument at her death in 1918. The Finzi family owned a villa in Gorla built in 1814 by the Hungarian prince Batthyany. Fanny built a “garden house” for the children of Gorla and a “refuge for disabled children” in the park in collaboration with the Gaetano Pini Orthopedic Institute, which became the largest Italian facility for motor recovery. The villa currently belongs to the Milan Municipality and a primary school has been built in the park.
